Hiroshi Nagano
HIROSHI NAGANO is presently Professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo.
After graduating from the faculties of Engineering and Law at Keio University, he joined the then Science and Technology Agency of the Prime Minister’s Office (the current Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and dealt mainly with science and technology-related policy issues.
Prior to GRIPS, he headed up the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) and then served as the Executive Director at the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
He still serves as Fellow at the Center for Research and Development Strategy of JST. His interests lie in science, technology and innovation policy formation, including encouraging young scientists and promoting cooperation with foreign countries and regions. He also served as the Chair of the Financial Audit Board of the ITER International Fusion Energy Organization and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Global Science Forum of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He is a member of the Engineering Academy of Japan.
